For many years, Luigi has been the second wheel but not everyone noticed him as a hero when it's coming to being the sidekick of saving the princess, coming in second as always in kart racing and also, being overshadowed by his older brother, Mario. We're going to tell you some reasons why his popularity is growing like never before and why some people didn't liked him so much as Mario.
The Deathstare helped a lot!:
You might have heard of the "Luigi Deathstare" from Mario kart 8. Well this video was trending tremendously, even non-nintendo fans have seen this video. As of today, the video has over 4 million views, why? For Luigi of course. The video shows Luigi demolishing Wagluigi with an item, staring him with that, "don't mess with me bit*h" look. Apparently, he's ridin' dirty.
Why Luigi was overshadowed:
Mario started it all for nintendo, so many gamers were in love with this awesome mascot ever since this character was released in the gaming world. The hit game Super Mario 64 made you had a big connection with this guy if you played the game before, but if you didn't, your adventures with Mario will be out of this world. Our point is, Mario appeared in so many games it's unbelievable that most people don't choose Luigi as a character when it comes to Mario kart, Mario Party, or even New super mario bros. And etc. since Mario was like the head leader for all of his games. So in most nintendo fan's head are most likely like "oh, Mario saved Peach on this epic adventure and that one and that one and that one, so why not be him? Yay Mario!" Get my point? You couldn't get that much of a connection with Luigi back then because Nintendo didn't do that much for him besides the fact they made a game where he saves his brother Mario in "Luigi Mansion", but besides that, you still couldn't because Luigi wasn't that special in most people heads. Luigi is always the second person when it comes to Mario kart trailers too, sometimes we really wonder if his own producer (nintendo) have something against with him.
Aww, crying? Don't worry! Luigi is way popular now! Thanks to Nintendo for realizing that Luigi has been left out of the spotlight for years, that they set up a special event that lasted a year for him! "Year of Luigi". He had a 3DS designed for him, games released for him, clothes & Accesories and especially more! After this event has happened, Luigi fans has been growing dramatically that people were easily to pick Luigi as a chosen character for a game, such as Mario kart 7 & 8 online play! People started realizing how courageous this beautiful human really is, Luigi ain't Mario's shadow, he's LUWEEEGEEEE!!!
